Mascot Wars

I sure seem to be building up quite a cast of original cartoon characters and concepts , far more than I ever set out to: it has expanded organically [ooh, missus!] and built up gradually, just trying things out to see what--or who--transpires.

I am taking a leaf out of the big Movie Studios' book [yes, I know, I have already made clear I think Hollwood is a load of baloney behind the scenes.......but that finished product can often LOOK Maginficent!]  and attempting to tie everything together, under an easily-reconizable symbol, or logo.

Disney have Mickey Mouse....Warner Bros Animation has Bugs Bunny......I liked the Walter Lantz one, with Woody Woodpecker on a horse, 'lancing' the Walter Lantz lettering....I am not too struck on the more modern ones like the Pixar 'humanized. lamp' but there you go.

I cannot decide on who to choose as a masthead logo-----Baby Boomer or the main-cat Jet Blanc? This is why I have come up with this image---[they are usually amigos in the comic strips] ---of the pair of them squaring up together.

The backing is of course lifted from vintage animated cartoon logos, notably Warner Bros Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies-----mines is meant to be a homage to old cartoons but it is maybe a bit too close, this circles emblem...I may yet come up with something more original, but this one will do just now---perhaps further updates on this, later.

Plate One:   the finished item,. only one sheet of paper was required for the entire image.

Plate Two:   the characters almost finished, this view reveals how B. B. is often drawn larger, then shrunken for nicer drawing.

Plate Three:   the original rough, drawn on recycled paper.

Plate 4:    the 'circles' backdrop, an image first drawn wholly in the computer: images like these are always appallingly sterile and inhuman-looking when first struck: I was after a more organic look, like seen in older, analogue film stock. This image was slightly blurred with distortion applied to get it to look a bit more natural and 'lived in'---anything to get away from that un-natural 'computerized' look.
