Color Experiment [3]

Slowly but surely, I'm learning to use computer-color......I've just learned to use the 'bucket tool': ace stuff, very quick indeed! So that's 'flat' artwork sussed out---------now to move onto 'gradiated tone, which is what I really want.......

    This drawing made me laugh the first time I saw it - it looks fab in colour (color?). Looking forward to seeing your next colour work.

    Thanks, guys! The blatant Americanisms in the spellings on here are deliberate: it's just me getting 'tuned in' to the strip, set in New York [mostly].


    The image of B.B. pumping up his foot was another of those lightning-quick ideas that was thought up quickly when I needed an illustration
    for the term 'Footnote' a few posts back....this cartoon has had a good response, so I'll likely incorporate it into the actual strips.


    A lot of colour stuff is planned, with some coming up soon, hopefully.

THE FLY: Winterland Redux

THIS PAST FEW WEEKS, the bulk of my drawings have been character-only, with plain white backgrounds, mainly to save on time and also to add emphasis to the characterization.  So! It's been nice to add in a 'decent' background once again, and I will be doing more of these soon........the technique I prefer for this  is drawing the backgrounds small like thumbnails, then blowing them up. The characters themselves are shrunken into the enlarged background plate---I just love the idea of playing around with scale like this. The drawing seen here represents the first time the Fly-Man Andre has left  the scientific laboratory to venture out into the wider world, which is why he is trying to hide his striking insect-features from the general public using his huge scarf. INSPIRATIONS:   Unlike some P.R.A.T.S. who act as if they are Gods' Gift to cartooning, [they're not: they would like to be, though......]  I myself rate cartooning in general  as a cannibalization...

IPC REDUX

THIS ITEM was a one-off, fairly elaborate Christmas-themed item in which the criteria was to recreate the ambience of the late 1960s/ very early 70s humour comics put out by IPC/ Fleetway---you know the sort of thing if you are into this stuff: Whizzer and Chips, Cor!!, and many more. ---in other words. 'no outright copying of established characters ' but I had to put over the basic ambience for them. Great fun, though clearly, this one took a fair bit of time to put together. Astounding Horrors: [2]

THE RICH VEIN of Cartoon Horror has thus far been woefully underexploited within the comic-pages of BABY BOOMER, and again there is a lot of potential in there, but up 'til now, it's been kept to a minimum. This is yet another theme bristling with cartoon potential, and the following diagram reveals  the very first public airing of  the 'skellingtons' who inhabit poor JET'S flat to torment him at will. The 'skellingtons' usually get 'sorted out', though, thru' the usual comic-cavortings. I am aware that the term 'skellington' has been widely used in the Jack Skellington character within the Nightmare before Christmas, but I was using this term long before I ever heard of Tim Burton, and  indeed I used to use this word in my natural speech when I was very young and never knew any better.....to be on the safe side, the skeletons are un-named in the actual strips, especially seeing they are minor supporting characters amidst the cartoon mayh...
