Future Features
OR: 'get Your Kicks....in TWO-ZERO-ONE-SIX!' [2016]
In the Golden Summer of 1978, John Lydon was busy assembling and rehearsing with his new post-Pistols, post-Punk musical outfit, and was searching for a suitable, radical new name for his new group: he eventually settled upon PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED [PIL] : however, much mirth and amusement was engendered by some of the none-too-serious earlier considerations for the band name: these included the lamentably unused THE CARNIVOROUS BUTTOCK-FLIES and , notoriously, the ROYAL FAMILY !
For the purposes of this blog, I needed a decent title-heading for this posting, and so I have dredged up---and half-inched----yet another early name consideration for Lydons' second professional band, namely the FUTURE FEATURES.
So basically, here is an account of what is in preperation for the upcoming New Year within this site:
BABY BOOMER: new directions: no dramatic character-changes for the four main players , which were 'set in stone' years ago---however there are 'brave new themes' to plunder and discover, one of these signpostings can be seen in the accompanying illustration below. A new sub-series involving these characters, at the time of writing being dubbed: 'MODERN LIFE IS RUBBISH' is in an advanced state of preparation.
I SPY: I have decided to add a fair bit of criticism and info on this extremely influential [to me!] D C Thomson character, seeing the concept is generally so unheralded within the critique Establishment of British Comicdom.........material like 2000 AD and BEANO are very well-represented web-wise, but I am on a mission to at least record much literature as engendered by this criminally-overlooked strip...........I have a skipload of material and data regarding I SPY , required to attain this end fairly in-depth-ly. I aim to add in a lot of new visuals of I SPY imagery , including a slew of the villains, into the bloggular mix.
'1989': there is still a fair bit of previously-unseen cartoon artwork I done in the late the 20th Century to exhibit within this site: more of this stuff coming up soon.
BRITISH COMIC ARTWORK LEGENDS will also continue: these take longer to prepare and execute but do bear with me. [not 'bare' with me, that would be most irregular!]
THE FLY/ KONGTOONS/ ADULTOONS/ and other fairly recent additions to my canon of original characters and concepts : happily, these will continue , mainly in polished format, I am happy to report. THE FLY PAPERS---'refined upgrades' of my very early concept sketches ---- will also continue on this score.
SATIRICAL MATERIAL: there is a definite shift away from lame-duck targets such as the hardcore of waffling bores on dodgy Cartoon Chat-sites: I started a lot of sketches of this stuff but it is now locked away: maybe in 20 years I might unleash it, a-la the '1989' unseen-artwork series ? We'll see---but not anytime soon. One or two other satirical concerns exist in sketch-form already, however.
