FLY'S Eye View
The 'fly-prism' tapestry seen last post is ripe for supplementary material: ---I am well aware that some of my posts come accross as 'repeats' of previously-seen imagery, however in this case, it is unchartered territory I have delved into, and I feel it is well worth including.----------this cartoon represents my first 'proper use' of cloning the same image repeatedly for use in a single frame.
I have seen examples of other cartoonists cloning the same image and I fancied a bash at this: to be honest, the fairly complex techniques of Digital Manipulation took me a while to get to grips with, and I doubt if I would have had the experience to attempt an image such as this even a year ago.
About the close-up of the screaming Helleyne: once I finished this toon, I realized it resembled a well-known cartoon image used on a cover of the 1975 Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack album: this may well have been lurking at the back of my psyche during creating the drawing, but it sho' wuz not DELIBERATE!!!!
UPDATE: I placed this image on a public website featuring hundreds of cartoonists from around the Globe, and it garnered a pretty good response: someone even asked if it was digitally achieved, or done using older methods: I was delighted with this, as I aim to get my drawings looking 'non-computerized'. Computers have many advantages, but if you are not careful, artwork can look very sterile and inhuman.
technicalities AHOY!
PLATE ONE: the original HELLEYNE [screaming head] was wrought large; almost A4-sized. I lament losing all that detail after shrinking the image, so here is the blown-up, real-scale version.
PLATE TWO: The cleaned-up line drawing of Helleyne
PLATE THREE: to make a repeat tapestry, you need a basic image to 'stamp' over and over again: a basic image like this one is all you need .
PLATE FOUR: the simple image, isolated onto a basic paper rough layout sheet.
PLATE FIVE: the simple image, repeated an-infinitum: this is just high-tech potato-printing, really !
