Commercial Zone: Odds-and-Sods
The vast majority of my paid cartoon work has never been screened on here, so I will be adding examples of these on here periodically.
Most of these stem from 'bidding war' commercial art sites where I compete against fellow artists.
I usually just submit a five-minute rough sketch and if I get a favorable response on this, I move onto the 'proper' artwork.
The finished cartoon can take a few hours so I usually just proceed if it looks like my effort has a chance of winning:
'yours is the best offering so far, I really like your style, etc etc'
I often compete against 20 or so other artists but my batting average is decent: I also win the odd competition as well.
I 'specialize' in logos and character creation, and this usually pays better than the meagre rewards served up in what is left of the UK comics market.
I can draw already-established characters if I really want to, but I get fed up trying to 'shoehorn' into someone elses' style: there is much more fun and freedom in creating everything yourself.
Loads more of these unseen works coming up.
I've also located copies of work I had published at D C Thomson in the 80s: these have, as yet, never been shown on here: I aim to screen a few of these works as well.
