Libertoons [3]
THIS 'offshoot' series of running gags involving the Statue of Liberty and great ape Koong King should prove to run for a long time: it's easy and quick to come up with this material, and I deliberately keep it sketchy to save spontanaeity.
Although I remember seeing a gag in MAD Magazine about King Kong falling in love with Lady Liberty, I have never really seen this idea fully exploited anywhere ---a bit of a mystery that one---there is loads of scope for cartoon ideas in there.
I am more than happy to mine this field, though.
More of these already completed, more soon.
PLATE ONE:
The finished cartoon, kept in a fairly sketchy state
PLATE TWO:
The rough sketch, before proportions of the characters were altered for better results---this technique is great for getting decent-scaled heads and faces especially---I use this a lot these days. Very easy to apply after you get used to it.
Before digital tinkering, I used to lose lots of effective cartoon heads that were simply drawn too large [a common fault for cartoonists, that one---------today, with this scope for mucking about with scale, I can still keep the 'good heads', I just have to shrink them down---it just takes mere seconds].
