FLIES need tickles, too.
THE FLY is most likely my own personal favorite cartoon project: BABY BOOMER is much more flexible and far-reaching, but the somewhat limited 'mad scientist' scenario within the fly-toons shown here thus far manages to somehow eke out some really striking imagery: this material is completely anarchic and uninhibited, it is an absolute joy to dream up.
The scientist's wife seen here is called HELLEYNE, a satirical spin on the female lead character from the 1958 sci-fi film, who is named Helene.
It is a real challenge, trying to get such a horrible subject as houseflies to 'look cute', dear reader, but below you can see proof that it can in fact be done!
So---why is Helleyne clutching a single rubber glove, as shown here?
---I have no idea; these individual quirks just spring into the mind while creating the drawing, and I never question this mystery---it usually stays in.
Plate One: the finished cartoon
Plate Two; the characters after basic cleanup
Plate Three: the original basic sketch.
Enjoy-----much more new Flyworks in my pile of cartoons just sitting here.
