Model-Sheet Designs: New Character
TODAY'S entry is the first in an occassional series 'showcasing' new characters I have been designing recently: the 'plan' was to crank out 12 very different original concepts/characters over a one-year period. Sadly, the time-consuming constraints of taking up Digital Color, accepting official cartoon comissions and other distractions have put these noble aspirations on 'hold' which is a bit of a shame as I was 'raring to go' on this score.
However. I recently looked through some pencils I did in New Year and summized that there was perhaps some potential in there, and I decided to ink the blighters up [old bean].
First up is BONE IDOL, who sounds very like a one-note IPC joke, circa 1971: however, the fact that this skeletal figure of 'fun' interacts with his 'Boss' in Hades before embarking on misadventures in 'the real World' perhaps has a degree of potential.
BONE IDOL has absolutely nothing to do with BABY BOOMER other than the fact it is nibbed in my own natural drawing style......it's just nice to try out a different character and concept.
I will maybe submit these model-sheets [there's a second one coming up on here very soon] for potential publication: Dammit, they never took long to draw, and Editors can only say:
'NO!!!!!'
I cannot grovel and apologize enough for my no-show on this blog over the last fortnight: I am racked with guilt and remorse. The plan was to make this site regular and reliable, and hopefully this can continue to the best of my ability.
The reason for me not appearing on here regularly of late was quite simply down to official cartoon assignments coming along: I'm grateful of course, however paying work has to take precedence over the blog in the short-term at least. I have been drawing 'cutie-pie' designs for tiny-tots' murals: very different from BABY BOOMER, all Noddy-like toy trains, babies with dummies/pacifiers, cute animals, etc.
I actually really enjoyed the discipline of drawing for someone else's desires, it was a different challenge.
I hope to show these labors on here at some point, but at the moment I can't as the copyright was handed over to the customer.

Hope you can get permisssion from them would be fun to see...
ReplyDeleteThanks for your interest, Peter! It was great being paid for drawing, as you have experienced yourself with your animal art cards.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I will be able to provide a link to the images after the customer starts up their website.
