In Memoriam: Dave Connor [1958-2011]

Today's entry is a tribute to a cartoonist who sadly left us this week: Dave Connor, also known as 'D.C.1' who was very popular over on the CCGB. Such is the response to his untimely departure, that the tributes are still coming in for him, and his popularity has engendered a competition in his honour, and this is my entry dedicated to Dave, who sadly I only knew through his drawings: very surreal and funny they are too!




I only ever applied to the CCGB caption competitions twice: I got zero response, so I just licked my wounds and returned to BABY BOOMER: however I felt it was the decent thing to do  [draw a cartoon in memorium to him] in   respect of Dave's departure, and a real 'over-the-top' affair it is too, and here's hoping I have handled it with delicacy.


I know that I did state in an earlier post that I was against portraying GOD in a cartoon,---and, true, this is correct as regards the regular BABY BOOMER cartoons, but this cartoon depicted herein is clearly a one-off, and I've made sure I have portrayed the divine being with taste and delicacy: at least, within the crude symbolism of cartoon imagery.


A very ethereal atmosphere depicted here, where I've learned how to use 'sunburts'.



I hope Dave can see this and approves!

THIS ITEM was a one-off, fairly elaborate Christmas-themed item in which the criteria was to recreate the ambience of the late 1960s/ very early 70s humour comics put out by IPC/ Fleetway---you know the sort of thing if you are into this stuff: Whizzer and Chips, Cor!!, and many more. ---in other words. Repeat Business [3]

TODAY'S ITEM is the fourth---and last, to date--------customized tailored caricature job I got offered by a kindly gent who liked my stuff enough to ask me back a few times. Great fun as usual and again I liked to do it in  fairly elaborate technique-style. HERE I HAVE ADDED the second sheet of artwork for my 'ice-cream' mini-strip; that is almost all of the character stuff/props complete on this one:  I just have to drop in the simple background plates. Although as revealed last posting I am not too sure of the copyright aspects as regards THE FLY, my adaptation of a King Kong-like character as seen here should be sound------he is just used as a supporting character, similar to adding in a stock vampire, or a Frankensteins' Monster-type 'also-ran' character------more on this later. New strip stuff is well under way for further inclusion on here. is it just me, or is that a wee bit of subversion I subconciously added to the double-cornet ice-cream? ENJOI! Rab-erto
