Barrel-Scraping: Blobs of Color
WHILE I AM BUSY preparing new artwork 'wonders' to amuse and inspire dessicated followers of these ramblings and musings, here's another color experiment turned out t'other night:
It's color applied to an already-existing cartoon, clearly, however a worthwhile try-out, as the view out of Jet Blanc's high-rise apartment has been slightly blurred to give the effect of viewing the leering Statue of Liberty behind glass: just one of the endless techniques that is available to he or she who dabbles in the realms of digital art.
Still a lot to' master' yet however: effective smoke/flames/glows and countless other effects waiting to be applied to the surreal world of BABY BOOMER.
And I haven't even started to colorize any of the actual strips in yet! This is definately on the cards very shortly, as I intend preparing at least six strips in full-color, to be placed on top of the pile as they are presented to publishers. There's no dice I am coloring the whole shebang of 600 plus strips...it's simply not feasible, old beanie-me-lads-and-lasses!
The US comics syndicates usually stipulate that it's not worthwhile sending in gimmicky artwork anyway: they get so much submissions, they can't be bothered looking at anything other than camera-ready finished strips.
Coloring in a handful won't do any harm though: it's a useful part of the comics production process.
BONUS FEECHURE:
Over at ace comics site COMICS UK, there is a very cool thread about fan art, and I am delighted to reveal that a young up-and-coming comics artist Josh Champion, ---aka dubbed as 'Young Freddy' to those in the know----has turned out the first-ever reproduction of eyepatched cat Jet Blanc that has been penned by anyone other than myself.
Marvel at the depiction featured, the only piece of artwork on this site not nibbed by your narrator and only friend!:

A sterling job by Young Freddy the artist here, as I'm sure you will agree.
Young Freddy/Josh is a highly-enthusiastic comics creator of tender years, and I'm sure we will see his stuff in print at some point.
His embryonic, vitality-filled etchings and ideas can be seen on this site, here:
Tune in, art-lovers: you won't be disappointed.
Good work.I think the colour on this works well especially with the rest of the cartoon in b&w...emphasises the shock effect!,
ReplyDeleteI'll probably finish off the whole cartoon eventually, John: the remaining colour will be pin-sharp, with the slightly blurred area behind the window hopefully standing out.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your interest! The colour stuff is coming along slowly but nicely.....
