'Subvers-O-toons'; [1]: VIBES

I'll be chucking in the odd off-key type of drawing, more for my own amusement, but hopefully you guys will like them too.

Now and again, I'll be adding something a bit more adventurous than the more commercial material, and the following is summat I've been itching to ink in for a fair while.....


------'Subvers-O-toons', as the name suggests, is an occassional feature that sees me apply something 'not exactly commercial or fit for print' but great fun to add as throwaway gags, which also helps to keep the drawings fresh and fanciful.

It's no secret that I am not exactly the biggest fan around of Political Correctness, and delight in portraying my characters doing something or other not exactly ''politically right-on', but nevertheless much fun for me to work on.


PART ONE:  VIBES:


Here, in this wholly 'unofficial', not-for-public- consumption graphic greeting, our muttworthy mongrel savors the forbidden fruits of smoking, a chilled beer and-----shock, horror----a 'girlie'-type mag as he relaxes 'off-duty' after a hard day's toil working as a comic-strip character.


There are another three parts coming up  in the 'SUBVERS-O-TOONS' series, and what exactly I am going to proffer in the case of cute catgal VERONICA in a subversive role has got me all excited just thinking about it...........phew!

THIS ITEM was a one-off, fairly elaborate Christmas-themed item in which the criteria was to recreate the ambience of the late 1960s/ very early 70s humour comics put out by IPC/ Fleetway---you know the sort of thing if you are into this stuff: Whizzer and Chips, Cor!!, and many more. ---in other words. 'no outright copying of established characters ' but I had to put over the basic ambience for them. Great fun, though clearly, this one took a fair bit of time to put together. THE FLY: Winterland Redux

THIS PAST FEW WEEKS, the bulk of my drawings have been character-only, with plain white backgrounds, mainly to save on time and also to add emphasis to the characterization.  So! It's been nice to add in a 'decent' background once again, and I will be doing more of these soon........the technique I prefer for this  is drawing the backgrounds small like thumbnails, then blowing them up. The characters themselves are shrunken into the enlarged background plate---I just love the idea of playing around with scale like this. The drawing seen here represents the first time the Fly-Man Andre has left  the scientific laboratory to venture out into the wider world, which is why he is trying to hide his striking insect-features from the general public using his huge scarf. INSPIRATIONS:   Unlike some P.R.A.T.S. who act as if they are Gods' Gift to cartooning, [they're not: they would like to be, though......]  I myself rate cartooning in general  as a cannibalization...

Repeat Business [3]

TODAY'S ITEM is the fourth---and last, to date--------customized tailored caricature job I got offered by a kindly gent who liked my stuff enough to ask me back a few times. Great fun as usual and again I liked to do it in  fairly elaborate technique-style.
